I intepretted Jack being in the photo means he became a ghost in the Overlook hotel, this is my favorite horror movie, made me love horror ever since I watched it as a kid. I rented the movie, in spite of the poor reviews, hoping it would come close to the book. The film tries to follow along for the first half, then obviously gives up. I was so distracted that good old Hollywood felt it was necessary to make Abra biracial from a mixed marriage, where in the book she is described as having blonde hair. Completely unnecessary and probably threw anyone looking for an adaptation of the book. No wonder Hollywood is going broke. Overall, average at best.

I mean, you cant not see a movie like this”.
The home address to Abra's place 1980, the year The Shining came out. The movie and book are completely different stories as anybody who watched Stanley Kubrick explain would know. And it's also why stephen king hated it. Half of the movie never really took place it was jack writing his horror novel because he was getting cabin fever. You can tell what's real and what's in the book by a few indicators such as furniture and when it's missing and the typewriter jack is using. I'd have to watch a little more to see where it breaks off but if I remember correctly there is nothing supernatural to the movie which is why king disliked it so much. Idk how this is going to directly follow considering in the movie there was really no shine. It was Jack's imagination and Danny's coping mechanism from being molested by his father. Unless they ignore what the film was about and pretend it directly follows the book I dont see how this will work. Although I'm excited.
Having been a fan of Kubrics interpretation of The Shining, I was immediately cautiously optimistic when I heard they would be making a sort of sequel. After an average trailer, I expected very little of the film to deliver. I was in for a shock.
The films main protagonist is Danny Torrence, a now morally grey, depressed alcoholic. It could have so easily come across as a cliche, but the writing really nails how the literal demons in Jack's life are what drove him to this state. A scene towards the end of the film set in the hotels bar, is extremely powerful, as we see Danny confront his inner demons, which in this case are his father's influence over him as well as his alcoholism. Danny's story in this film is poignant, and was most certainly the highlight of the film for me. You can tell the creators really wanted to give him a satisfying redemption arc.
The new elements of the film are where things were a bit less strong. The villainess, Rose the hat, was fantastic, and was portrayed with an enticing, evil energy. The same could be said for all the newcomers, performances were generally strong across the board. However, the film falters when it loses focus on Danny. The antagonists themselves arent very interesting, and the fact that the new girl is shown to be so powerful really eases the tension, as you can ultimately tell she will end up completely unscathed (she almost beats Rose in their first fight. However, I feel as though no villain introduced would be able to beat the Overlook Hotel, so at the very least we got some good performances.
A couple of side notes. The soundtrack was fantastic, if not sounding a little too similar to the original film.
Some of the visuals were incredible and creative, especially during shining sequences.
I have no issue with them recreating scenes from the original. It wouldnt work reusing old footage and mishmashing it with new ones.
Overall, I'm happy with how the film turned out. You could tell passion for the source material and Kubrics vision were poured into this film, and the result is a worthy successor to the shining and a faithful adaptation to the novel.
Wooooow cant wait so watch it. Damn damn damn I m really into SK books, and hope they will do a great movie about it, seems like adaptations from SK books havents ended soo bad, i liked dreamcatcher, IT the old( one from 85) the shinning, so i guess it will be fine. The main matter that made me comment here is: Who think the cast for Abra is wrong? For respect to the book and readers, i guess, she is blonde and blue eyes. Ok i as a director, could have choosed between a lot of young pretty actress, like my firsr option. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and this video makes me love it even more. I never really thought about how the meaning of fatherhood potentially plays into the horrifying nature of this movie. A father is expected to work and provide for his family, deal with daily stress without complaining or showing weakness, and even give his life for his family if need be. His role is to sacrifice himself, and he rarely gets the appreciation he deserves. The idea that this movie progressively flips the script and shows a father descending into madness due to stress or evil supernatural forces and instead sacrificing his family, is twisted and brilliant.
